After producing multiple tornadoes in Iowa, the storms merged into a quasi-linear convective system that moved eastward into northern Illinois.
Multiple wind gusts of 70 mph or greater were noted across the NWS Chicago county warning area as this line of storms moved through, and even an 81 mph gust was observed at Rockford Airport. By the time the storms reached northwest Indiana, they had weakened. The highest snow totals are expected near the Illinois-Wisconsin state line. There will be strong winds from the west-southwest this morning with gusts in excess of 50 mph.
The winds will diminish later this morning and through the afternoon. We are keeping an eye on storms in eastern Illinois that are moving into western Indiana for a possible warning. It was recently issued for parts of western and central Indiana, and for that reason, Benton County, IN is included.
